 Details

Come spend the weekend learning new outdoor skills with like minded individuals at Buffalo Ridge Refuge. Participants must be at least 18 years of age and the cost of the workshop is $100 but this includes 3 classes and all your meals Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. Lodging is not included but primitive camping is permitted, and you must provide your own equipment. Once registered, you will be emailed a confirmation packet that includes a detailed agenda, map, and a list of local hotels nearby. Priority will be given to first time participants. All-Terrain Vehicle Operation

Learn the proper and safe way to ride all-terrain vehicles. After an off-road course, you will hit the trails.

Basic Archery

Participants will learn the proper methods of both field archery and bowhunting. A range will be set up for students to practice their shooting skills and techniques.

Beginning Fly Fishing

Learn the basics of casting and fly presentation, types of flies, selection of equipment, and basic knowledge of flyfishing.

Introduction to Paddlesports

Participants will get a chance to try out canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards and learn the different types of strokes necessary to safely maneuver each type of watercraft.

Rifle 101

Participants will spend time shooting rifles along with learning marksmanship and safe gun handling. 

Pistol 101

Students will learn basic pistol skills and safe gun handling

Field to freezer

Sign up for this field-to-freezer style class to broaden your understanding of animal internal anatomy and how to translate this knowledge into the butchery of your own lean, sustainably-sourced meat.

Introduction to Sporting Clays

Participants will have an opportunity to practice shotgun techniques, with an emphasis on hunting and shooting sports.

Long Distance Shooting

Participants will learn and gain a better understanding of the techniques that are necessary and will be able to have a crack at shooting up to a mile!

Map & Compass

Participants will learn how to navigate the woods using a map and compass.

Successful Fishing Skills

Participants will spend the class wetting a line and learning new fishing techniques

Trapping

You will learn about different types of traps and how to set them for targeting animals such as coyotes, bobcats, raccoons, and beavers.

Wild Edible Foray

Join Windy Hunter for a wild edibles foray through-out the trails of the refuge.
