In Tennessee, boaters born after January 1, 1989, are required to obtain and carry a Tennessee Boater Education Card when operating boats with engines of 8.5 horsepower or greater. Students must be at least 12 years of age. Potential students may register for the class and pick up a boater handbook at Homes before the class. A Type 600 Boater Education Test Permit must be purchased before attending the class.
