The 15th Annual Maury County/Steve Brown Memorial Youth Dove Hunt will be held on September 19 at the Middle Tennessee Research and Ag Center in Spring Hill, TN. Youths ages 9-15, who have successfully passed a Hunter Education course, are eligible to register for this hunt. Hunters 13-15 years of age should have an appropriate license to hunt. Space is limited to 45 hunters and will be based on the order of registration. Each young hunter must be accompanied by one non-hunting adult during the event. The hunt begins at 2pm. Each hunter will be assigned a position on the field and will go to that spot with the non-hunting adult to begin hunting. Only one hunter per adult will be allowed. The hunt concludes at sunset. Dear Young Sportsman, On behalf of the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, I would like to thank you for your interest in the youth dove hunt on September 9th in Maury County. Numerous individuals, organizations and businesses have helped make this event possible. These sponsors include Community Heating and Air, Corvin’s Auto Repair, Middle Tennessee Research and Education Center, Columbia Noon Rotary, SunDrop, Steve’s Gun and Archery, Tennessee Wildlife Officers Association and the TWRA. The day’s activities are as follows: Registration/ clay target range 11:00am-12:30pm Safety orientation 1:45pm-2:00pm Dove hunt 2:00pm-sunset The day’s events will be held at the UT Middle Tennessee Research and Education Center, Columbia, TN. They are located off of Highway 31 North between Columbia and Spring Hill. A map is included with this letter. There are some rules that must be followed due to the wide range of agricultural test plots throughout the venue. Safety officers will be posted at each field to ensure everyone’s safety and to make sure the following rules are obeyed. YOU MUST FOLLOW THEIR ORDERS. - No dogs, they could severely damage test plots. - No climbing over fences. - You must pick up empty shotgun hulls and all trash. - Guns must have a plug. (cannot hold more than 3 shells) - Guns must be in a case, unloaded, at all times unless you are at the range or at your hunting stake. - Eye protection is mandatory. Ear and eye protection will be available. - Each Youth must be accompanied by a NON- HUNTING ADULT at least 18 years old or older. - You are REQUIRED to be hunter education certified. BRING CARD!!! - If you are 13 or older, you need to have a Type 002 Junior Hunt/Trap/Fish license and a migratory bird permit Type 006, or a Lifetime License. Other things to consider: Chair or dove stool plenty of shotgun shells Hat & sunscreen Snacks Shotgun Plenty of fluids Bug spray This should be a fun filled day for everyone involved.
